On May 29th, Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (CSALC), along with the South Asian Legal Clinic of Ontario (SALCO) and the Centre for Spanish Speaking People (CSSP), hosted a joint Town Hall on the recent cuts to legal aid funding by the Provincial Government. This catastrophic 30% cut to legal aid Ontario will have disproportionate and detrimental impact on racialized communities, immigrants, migrants and refugees.
Close to 50 participants from the community, partner agencies and other stakeholders attended the town hall. Representatives from CSALC, SALCO and CSSP discussed how the cuts to legal aid, including to immigration and refugee law services, will directly harm and further marginalize low-income, racialized communities across the Ontario.
Participants also strategized how we can work together to raise public awareness about the impact of the legal aid cut.
